More
than ever, environmental issues are taking
centre stage. MPD is no exception. Thanks
to a series of green accreditations, MPD
is leading the way to be one of the South
West’s foremost environmentally-friendly
printers.
“Clients are increasingly choosing
suppliers that are environmentally sound,”
said Graham Seeley, Managing Director. “For
us, achieving environmental accreditations
is about more than satisfying our clients.
It’s about staying ahead of the game.”
In May 2008, MPD received official UKAS
accreditation for ISO 14001-2004: the de
facto standard for environmental practice
in business. “Achieving this standard
involved introducing many improvements to
our processes, including staff training
and equipment enhancements,” said
Graham. “We’ve also put the
right record keeping and corrective measures
in place. So, if anything goes wrong or
we need to provide evidence of our actions,
it’s traceable and auditable.”
MPD’s environmental achievements don’t
end there. The company has gained accreditations
from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
and the Programme for the Endorsement of
Forest Certification (PEFC). Both standards
recognise MPD’s commitment to using
environmentally friendly paper stocks from
managed and sustainable forests. “The
schemes ensure we’ve established a
‘chain of custody’. This means
clients can find out where we sourced the
paper, and the merchant, mill and forest
it came from.”
However, as Graham explained, MPD’s
green policies don’t begin and end
at accreditations. “From removing
chemicals responsibly to reducing our energy
usage, everything we do has the environment
in mind. We aim to deliver the practices
our clients expect and set the standard
for other printers to follow.” |
